Our passionate and highly skilled teachers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and locations. Each is committed to Yiramalay’s mission – to bring about positive change through education.

Understanding cultural differences

At Yiramalay, a genuine openness to learn about and engage with other cultures unites our teachers. They don’t simply teach, they also learn – from each other, from mentors and Elders, and most importantly, from their students.

Through interactions with students as well as formal training, Yiramalay teachers learn about cultures, communities and the specific challenges and issues young Aboriginals face.

Investing in our people

All Yiramalay teachers undertake a mental health first aid course and complete the TAFE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

We also invest in extensive cultural competence training that acknowledges Aboriginal ways of knowing. This ensures teachers understand, support and assist students with all aspects of their education, welfare and wellbeing.
